X Factor Winner Leon Jackson Dropped by Record Label
by Musa Aykac
The X Factor has become a part of everyone's life in Britain; you know when winter is close because you start hearing the highly addictive theme tune. The shows kick off with auditions both good and bad and for some people it is probably the best part. But then the show starts to get a lot more serious as the final contestants battle for a place in the live airings. Once there the public week by week eliminate the worst performer.
The show is gripping and has produced global superstars in the form of Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and Shayne Ward, all of these singers have amazing vocal ranges and a great tone. But what happened to 2007 winner Leon Jackson? The 2007 show was in some ways always destined to fail in finding an artist because of the sheer talent of its previous winner Leona Lewis. Leona has gone on to dominate the charts throughout the world and is currently the most sought after artist.
Some people always asked would Leon have been in the Top 5 of the X Factor if he signed up in Leona Lewis's season. The simple answer would have been no, the 2007 X factor show just did not have the talent that was needed, except of course for Rhydian Roberts who people say should of won and the only reason he probably did not was because the X Factor is a pop show not opera. It is always sad to see an artist fall but it has been allegedly confirmed that Leon Jackson has already been let go by his record label due to a poor selling album and singles. Simon Cowell always had his doubts about Leon's ability through the competition and instead backed runner-up Rhydian Roberts to win the 2007 final.
So could this be the end of another X Factor hopeful? Will he join the unsuccessful team that reality shows have created such a Steve Brookstein, Michelle Mcmanus, Gareth Gates and One True Voice to name a few? Or will he turn things around and sign up with another label, whatever happens Leon still remains hopeful by saying: 'I had a great year and learned so much recording and releasing my album. Every artist knows these things can go either way.
Whatever does evolve no artist deserves to be dropped or fired, Leon was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but hey I guess he has made enough now to live very comfortably indeed, which was always his wish.
