Coldplay Tickets - British Stars Play Australian Bushfire Benefit

by Brent Warnken

Chris Martin and Co. have been jet-setting across the globe over the past several months, playing live music for fans worldwide with Coldplay tickets, and over the weekend this slew of British rockers came together in Australia to chip in as part of the Sound Relief fundraising efforts in Sydney and Melbourne, helping raise money to aid victims of recent devastating bushfires and floods in Oz. Coldplay was one of several international bands or artists to play onstage in either Sydney or Melbourne, as the rock band was part of the Sydney lineup alongside other acts such as prog-rock band Wolfmother, country artist Taylor Swift, rockers Jet, the Bee Gees' Barry Gibb and singer/actress Olivia Newton-John.

Coldplay kicked off the Sydney leg of the Sound Relief concert last weekend, taking the stage in a 40-minute set and first playing their 2000 hit "Yellow." These brilliant rockers also played fan favorites such as "Clocks" and "Viva La Vida" and featured a guest appearance by Australian superstar John Farnham, and the collaborative group joined together to sing Farnham's 1986 hit single "You're the Voice." Back in Melbourne, meanwhile, big-name acts such as Kings of Leon, Gabriella Cilmi, Crowded House, Kylie Minogue, Hunters and Collectors, Split Enz and Midnight Oil all wowed fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Sound Relief event helped raise thousands of dollars to aid the natural disaster that recently killed more than 200 people in Victoria in bushfires, and also to Queensland and its recent devastating problems with flooding.

While frontman Chris Martin and his famed Brit rock group Coldplay are now internationally-recognized celebrities, it all came together for this London-based band in 1996, when Martin (vocals/piano), Jon Buckland (guitar), Will Champion (drums) and Guy Berryman (bass) joined forces while attending the University College of London. After releasing EPs Safety, Brothers & Sisters and Blue Room, Coldplay inked a deal with Parlophone and released their debut album Parachutes in 2000. The band's debut album contained the hit single "Yellow," establishing this crew of fashionable rockers as an international delicacy abroad and in the U.S., as well. 2001's A Rush of Blood to the Head further propelled the name Coldplay onto the mainstream music scene with singles like "The Scientist," "Clocks" and "In My Place," winning Grammy Awards left and right while continuing to pump out hits.

2005's X&Y gave Coldplay another hit album to release to a music-hungry audience, and the smash single "Speed of Sound" quickly jumped atop the Billboard charts. Most recently, Coldplay released their 2008 album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, garnering top album sales and quickly coming in at number one on the Billboard 200. Coldplay has since been spotted playing gigs across the world, recently rocking out onstage in self-described "recycled Sgt. Peppers outfits" at the 2009 Grammy Awards.

This group of British musicians played in Australia over the weekend after jamming in the spur-of-the-moment Sound Relief concert, but the rockers will be back in the U.S. later this spring, playing shows across North America through August before invading Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Spain, France, Holland, Ireland and England in a series of live shows. To get tickets to any of these events, try searching online.
